As a Vata type, your constitution is distinctly Vata-predominant, and you probably have a lot in common with other Vata types who share that core distinction.

Physical Characteristics

Vata Body type produces long and narrow features, thinness and irregularity such as asymmetrical and disproportional features. Vata has a light narrow frame, with long narrow limbs and slight muscle mass. Vatas are naturally thin, and may have difficulty in gaining weight or may yo- yo in weight. You have thin skin which is prone to dryness and a dusty grey complexion.

Your face shape is narrow, long, with small eyes and thin lashes. Your nose may be small or long and narrow. You have narrow, small, lips and teeth can be large or small.

Your hair is thin, dry, wavy or curly. Your hands, have rectangular palms and long fingers. You are prone to thin brittle nails. Your tongue is narrow, long, thin, brownish in colour and often looks a little dry.

You dislike the cold and have a tendency towards poor or variable circulation. You are affected by the cold more than Pitta or Kapha. You often suffer from cold fingers and toes.

Happy, creative, inspired, energetic and enthusiastic energy with lots of ideas. You are social, love change and are always looking for something new to try or do. You are imaginative, innovative and an abstract thinker. Vata are spontaneous and flexible, good communicators, often intellectually brilliant, with a great short term memory.

When Vata emotions are imbalanced either the Air or Ether elements increase and the personality exhibits~fear, worry, anxiety rumination, nervousness, hypersensitivity, depression, Imbalanced Vata speak quickly with dramatic mood swings. You exhibit fragility, spaciness and superficiality. You are the most sensitive and suffer more from stress and anxiety.

Digestion

Appetite~Variable, with extremes. Quick to become hungry and quick to satisfy with variable hunger and a small appetite. Vata often meals or forgets to eat and has difficulty digesting heavy foods. You are subject to food allergies and food sensitivities. You experience frequent bloating, burping, distention, dryness, gas, straining, dry stools, frequent constipation.

Energy Levels, Stamina and Sleep

Vata people have lower stamina and energy than Pitta or Kapha. You may do well to avoid tasks that require too much physical stamina and strength. Too much exertion like walking for too long or traveling too much can cause vata vitiation, sleep disorders, and fatigue. Vata is the air element in our body that controls the mind. When it is out of balance, one is prone to worry, sleeplessness, light sleep, or fatigue from lack of sleep and other sleep-related disorders. Vata constitutions sleep the least among the doshas and it may get shorter as they age. Sleeping on soft beds can help you to fall asleep easily due to the heightened comfort.
